I am Julie
Hi there!
I've been chasing light and wildlife for nearly thirty years now. What started as a way to slow down and pay attention has become one of the truest parts of who I am — photography isn't a hobby I fit in around everything else; it's where I come back to myself.
Most of my work centers on travel and wildlife. There's a particular kind of patience that discipline demands — waiting for the moment a heron commits to a strike, or a fox stops pretending it hasn't noticed you. I shoot with a Canon R6 and live behind an RF 70-200mm f/2.8 more often than not; it's become an extension of how I see.
More recently, I've been pushing myself into wide-angle and landscape work — a real departure after decades of thinking in telephoto terms. It hasn't come easily. Learning to compose a whole scene instead of isolating a single subject has meant unlearning some habits, but that friction has been good for me, and for the work.
I'm based in the Appalachian region of West Virginia, and the hills, rivers, and backroads here have shaped my eye as much as any trip has. That said, I chase good light wherever it takes me — recent travels have included hiking trails in Glacier National Park with a camera never far from reach.
If you're here because an image caught your eye, I hope it holds up to a longer look. Feel free to reach out — I always enjoy hearing what a photograph says to someone else.
